Clavacillin (Amoxicillin Trihydrate and Clavulanate Potassium) Tablet is an orally administered formulation comprised of the broad-spectrum antibiotic amoxicillin trihydrate and the ß-lactamase inhibitor, clavulanate potassium (the potassium salt of clavulanic acid). It is used for infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It can be prescribed to dogs/cats for soft tissue and skin infections, for urinary tract infections and periodontal disease. Sold as individual tablets in strengths of 62.5 mg, 125 mg, 250 mg and 375 mg.
It is a medication for dogs and cats that combines the broad spectrum antibiotic activity of amoxicillin which is effective against many gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, such as those that cause soft tissue and skin infections in cats and dogs, urinary tract and infections and periodontal disease in dogs.

The main ingredients, Amoxicillin and Clavulanate combine their broad-spectrum antibiotic activity. Amoxcillin blocks the bacteria from creating a cell wall and Clavunlanate causes some bacteria that is normally resistant to Amoxicillin to become weakened and susceptible to that antibiotic.

Nausea, decreased appetite, vomiting and diarrhea may be experienced. Give the medication with food to reduce effect. It is felt that this drug is safe to use (with caution) during pregnancy. Allergic reactions are rare, but if your pet shows irregular breathing, rash, fever, hives, scratching, puffiness or facial swelling, or anything else unusual, stop therapy and contact your veterinarian immediately
The use of this drug is contraindicated in animals with a history of an allergic reaction to any of the penicillins or cephalosporins. If an allergic reaction occurs, administer epinephrine and/or steroids. WARNINGS: Safety of use in pregnant or breeding animals has not been determined.
